meta | morph | osis

The term metapmorphosis is literally three words in one; transition (to a) higher state. This project documents the life cycle of a butterfly, specifically the Eastern Black Swallowtail butterfly of North America. A still ongoing project that started in 2019 it is a metaphor for many types of journey we all make—from the physical to the spiritual—embodied in the struggle of this insect. It is especially prescient for the profound changes we must undergo in our understanding and our behaviour towards this planet and all other life on it.
